In this episode of the Wide Awake Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dariusz Dziewanski. Dariusz is an experienced researcher, journalist, and author who has dedicated fifteen years to international development and humanitarian work.

He specialises in research, monitoring, evaluation, and learning, with his main focus on gangs. His extensive academic research has resulted in the publication of a book titled "Gang Entry and Exit in Cape Town: Getting Beyond The Streets in Africa’s Deadliest City," as well as numerous articles in esteemed peer-reviewed journals.

During our conversation, we delved into Dariusz's journey of working with gangs in South Africa and explored why Cape Town holds the unfortunate distinction of being Africa's deadliest city. We discussed the Cape Flats and examined the most influential gangs in South Africa. Additionally, we explored the reasons behind individuals joining gangs and the various pathways they take to exit such environments. Dariusz also shared an insane story about a lone gangster engaged in an extraordinary battle and much more…

Mass deportation of Jamaicans and other immigrant communities in the United States looms as Donald Trump wins the 2024 election, causing widespread fear among Jamaicans in the U.S. and families back in Jamaica. With Trump’s tough stance on immigration making headlines, Jamaican immigrants in places like New York, Miami, and other U.S. cities worry about their futures. For Jamaicans who’ve worked hard, contributed to the U.S. economy, and made a life in the United States, the threat of deportation feels personal and immediate.

In this video, we explore the impact of Trump’s return on Jamaica and the large Jamaican immigrant community in America. From Trump’s past immigration policies to his current plans, we break down how Jamaicans and other immigrant communities may face significant challenges under his administration. Trump’s re-election means potential policies on deportation and tighter borders could become a harsh reality, not just for Jamaican immigrants but for all immigrants in the United States.

Jamaicans have created strong communities in cities across the U.S., especially in New York and Florida, where Jamaican culture, businesses, and contributions have shaped neighborhoods for years. But now, with a renewed focus on mass deportation, Jamaicans face uncertainty about the lives they’ve built in the United States. The Jamaican community, like other immigrant groups, contributes to the U.S. economy, pays taxes, and supports families both in America and Jamaica. However, Trump’s policies threaten to unravel these efforts, leaving Jamaicans in fear of deportation and separation from their loved ones.

This video also examines the significance of Trump’s control over the U.S. government, including the Senate and House, and what this means for Jamaicans and all immigrants in America. With the power to pass stricter immigration policies, Trump’s presidency could reshape immigration in the United States and make it difficult for immigrants, especially those from Jamaica and the Caribbean, to find stability and security. For families in Jamaica who depend on financial support from relatives in the U.S., mass deportations could impact Jamaica’s economy as well, sending shockwaves back home.

We discuss how Jamaicans and other immigrant communities are reacting to this reality—organizing support networks, seeking legal advice, and preparing for the possibility of deportation. For many Jamaicans, the American dream feels uncertain, and the question remains: What will this mean for the future of Jamaican immigrants and their connection to Jamaica? This video delves into Trump’s potential immigration policies, the sense of panic spreading through immigrant communities, and how Jamaicans in America are bracing for what could come next.

Trump’s re-election has also sparked a crisis at the U.S. border, as immigrants from all backgrounds rush to enter before policies get stricter. As the border becomes a site of tension and humanitarian concern, the challenges faced by Jamaican immigrants and their families are part of a larger immigration crisis. What does Trump’s victory mean for Jamaica, the United States, and the millions of immigrants caught in between?

If you want to understand how Trump’s new term could impact Jamaica and Jamaican immigrants in the United States, this video provides an in-depth look at what lies ahead. Join us as we navigate this uncertain time and uncover the real effects of mass deportation and immigration policies on Jamaicans, America, and Jamaica.

Paul Mooney discusses racism in America. An extra feature from the documentary film "Clean Mic: Laughing until it hurts"
Field of Dreams" is a phrase that describes the concept of building something from scratch, with the hopes that people will come and enjoy it. In this case, we're talking about building a soccer field, and using an excavator to get the job done.

Excavators are heavy-duty construction machines that are used for digging, demolition, and other heavy-duty work. They are also a popular choice for building soccer fields, due to their ability to move large amounts of soil quickly and efficiently.

To build a soccer field with an excavator, the first step is to clear the land of any obstacles, such as trees, rocks, or debris. The excavator can be used to dig out these obstacles and move them to a designated area for disposal.

Next, the excavator is used to level the ground, creating a flat and even surface for the soccer field. The operator can use the excavator's blade to scrape away any high spots and fill in any low areas, creating a level playing surface.

After the ground has been leveled, the excavator can be used to create the field's boundaries and goal posts. This involves digging out the corners and midpoints of the field, and installing posts to mark the boundaries and goals.

Finally, the excavator can be used to install drainage systems, irrigation systems, and any other features that the soccer field may require, such as seating or lighting.

Overall, using an excavator to build a soccer field is a fast and efficient way to create a high-quality playing surface. However, it's important to hire an experienced operator who knows how to work with the excavator safely and efficiently, to ensure that the job is done right.
