UAE reports missile and drone strikes incoming from Iran as fire hits Fujairah oil facility
The United Arab Emirates says it intercepted missiles launched from Iran, with four detected — three destroyed over territorial waters and one falling into the sea.
A large fire has broken out at a petroleum facility in Fujairah, a key hub for the country’s energy exports.
The UAE’s Ministry of Defence said sounds heard across parts of the country were from air defence systems engaging aerial threats.
Journalist Natasha Turak, speaking to Al Jazeera from Dubai, said a cargo ship is also on fire off the UAE coast, citing the UK Maritime Trade Operations.
She added multiple missile alerts were recorded within hours in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as air defences engaged incoming missiles and drones.
Turak noted the blaze at Fujairah Petroleum Industries is still being contained, with the site a strategic export terminal bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
Authorities have urged residents to seek shelter and await the all-clear as air defences remain active and the situation continues to develop.
