Welcome to JAMAICA - one of my favorite countries in the Caribbean. This island is full of life, culture, beaches, and reggae music, and it makes for an excellent vacation destination... However, there's a darker side of Jamaica that exists among the local population. In recent years, the nation has emerged as one of the most dangerous in the Caribbean with gang violence and political turmoil in the slums areas. In this story, I went deep into a dangerous slum called Flankers in Jamaica's second-largest city (Montego Bay) to document street life and see what kind of people live there.

Burkina Faso Accuses France, Benin and Ivory Coast of Destabilization | Firstpost Africa

Burkina Faso's military leader Ibrahim Traore has accused France of destabilizing his country. He said he has evidence of destabilization orchestrated against Burkina Faso by France, with the support of West African nations Benin and Ivory Coast. Traore accused Benin of hosting "two French bases", which he says were a "centre of operations for the terrorists" who regularly strike Burkina Faso. He aso claimed Ivory Coast was hosting "a centre of operations to destabilise" Burkina Faso. France has denied the accusations.

West Africa Bloc ECOWAS Offers Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso 6 Months to Rethink Exit | Firstpost Africa

West African leaders met in Nigeria's capital Abuja for the ECOWAS summit on Sunday. This gathering was seen as another desperate effort by the pro-west bloc to rebuild the broken ties. ECOWAS is a 15-member West Africa’s main political and economic group. However, three nations have announced that they are no longer part of the group. They are Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, all ruled by military governments. In January this year, they announced their withdrawal from the bloc after forming their own Alliance of Sahel States (AES). At the summit in Abuja, the member states approved the official withdrawal date as January 29. But in some last-ditch efforts, they extended the timeline to July 29. The bloc hopes to use the six-month transition period to convince the countries to return. Watch for more.

Dozens Of Russian Military Instructors Land In Burkina Faso: Reports | Firstpost Africa

Dozens of Russian military instructors have arrived in insurgency-hit Burkina Faso as per reports. Sources say these Russian military instructors came through flights from neighbouring Mali. Russian instructor is a term used for former fighters from Russia's Wagner mercenary group, now regrouped under a new body called the Africa Corps. Burkina Faso military after taking power in September 2022, has expelled troops and diplomats from former colonial ruler France and has turned to Russia for military assistance. Islamist rebels affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group have waged an insurgency since 2015 in Burkina Faso that has killed thousands and displaced two million people.
