After a month-long Canada Post strike amid labour disputes with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon, with the help of the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), has ordered the national mail service to resume its services next week.

"I am intervening today to make sure both parties have a solid foundation to resume negotiations and reach a mutual agreement as quickly as possible," MacKinnon said during a press conference on Friday, detailing the "timeout."

The Liberal minister further revealed that Canada Post's and CUPW's existing collective agreements will be extended until May 22, 2025, with an official report from an "Industrial Inquiry Commission" (IIC) — containing detailed findings and recommendations on a path forward — being required one week earlier.

"It is the government's responsibility to maintain industrial peace, and Canadians must be assured that their government will take all necessary actions to protect them," MacKinnon said. "It is not a decision I take lightly, but in this situation it is the right one," he added.

The strike saw approximately 55,000 Canada Post employees off the job and on the picket lines since Nov. 14. The result? Approximately 1 million packages being delayer per day ahead of the holiday season. MacKinnon says the negative impacts have been felt most by small businesses, charities, rural communities and Indigenous peoples.

For more than fifteen years the extremist group Al Shabaab has been fighting a bloody insurgency in Somalia.

Now, as President Biden redeploys American troops to the country, are the group winning the fight?

Formed in 2002, by 2008 they controlled much of southern Somalia.

They soon pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda and began conducting attacks at home and abroad.

In September 2013 they killed nearly 70 people in the Westgate shopping mall attack in Kenya's capital Nairobi.

Then again in Kenya in April 2015 Al Shabaab militants killed 148 people at Garissa University College.

Back home in the Somali capital Mogadishu they carried out their most deadly attack in October 2017, killing more than five hundred people in a massive truck bombing.

In the years that have followed, the group's attacks have become routine.

They often kill dozens of civilians a month, as they battle the African Union troops there to try and keep them at bay.

Now emboldened by the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan following the US withdrawal, the group are cementing control of their territory, with the aim to take the whole country and implement strict Sharia law.

At the moment, Al Shabaab control vast swathes of central and southern Somalia but their reach spreads far further, with Somali government control diminishing.

Our correspondent Jamal Osman obtained rare access to film in Al Shabaab territory and travelled to their de facto capital Jilib.

As per reports, Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists in Burkina Faso are discreetly using northern Ghana as a logistical and medical rear base to sustain their insurgency. They are crossing over and coming to Ghana to stock up on food fuel and even explosives. Some of them are also reportedly getting medical treatment in Ghana's hospitals. Reports say that while authorities in Ghana are aware of this, they have mostly turned a blind eye to these movements. This, as so far, Ghana has not become a victim of their deadly attacks, unlike its Sahelian neighbours. Watch the video for more details.
