Music by Robert Lightbourne (arranged by Mapletoft Poulle), July 1962
Lyrics by Hugh Sherlock (Yuu Shoerlak), July 1962

Lyrics in English:
Eternal Father bless our land
Guard us with Thy mighty hand
Keep us free from evil powers
Be our light through countless hours
To our leaders, Great Defender,

Teach us true respect for all
Stir response to duty's call
Strengthen us the weak to cherish
Give us vision lest we perish
Knowledge send us, Heavenly Father,

"Jamaica, Land We Love" is the national anthem of Jamaica, officially adopted in July 1962. It was chosen after a competition from September 1961 until 31 March 1962, in which, the lyrics of the national anthem were selected by Jamaica's Houses of Parliament. When Jamaica was granted independence on 6 August 1962, "Jamaica, Land We Love" continued to be officially used as the national anthem.

Prior to the declaration of the independence of Jamaica, Jamaica was made a West Indies Federation province of the British West Indies, still under the rule of the United Kingdom. The nation entered the federation under the rule of Premier Norman Manley, who also made various constitutional amendments to allow the process of decolonisation to rapidly take place. These amendments also allowed the country to have more self-governing powers and permitted the formation of a cabinet led by a premier. Premier Norman Manley's participation in the West Indies Federation was unpopular and led to the independence of the country on 6 August 1962, and the national anthem selected in July 1962 was officially used from that date.

Very nice performance of the Jamaican national anthem " Jamaica, Land We Love "

FLAG
The present design emerged from those sent in by the public in a national competition.[citation needed] It was originally designed with horizontal stripes, but this was considered too similar to the flag of Tanganyika (as it was in 1962, only the yellow stripes are thinner), and so the saltire was substituted.
An earlier interpretation of the colours was, "hardships there are but the land is green and the sun shineth" as stated in the government Ministry Paper 28 - National Flag dated 22 May 1962.Gold recalls the shining sun, black reflects hardships, and green represents the land. It was changed in 1996 to black representing the strength and creativity of the people which has allowed them to overcome difficulties, gold for the wealth of the country and the golden sunshine, and green for the lush vegetation of the island, as well as hope.[6] The change was made on the recommendation of the Committee to Examine National Symbols and National Observances appointed by the then Prime Minister P. J. Patterson and chaired by Milton "Rex" Nettleford.[citation needed] The flag is blazoned: Per saltire vert and sable, a saltire Or.

In this video I share my travel experience from Accra to the Volta Region of Ghana.
This was my second time in the Volta region and yet still beautiful as I remember it. The volta Region of Ghana is home to incredible sites including Amedzofe Village, Mountain Gemi, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, Ote falls, Keta beach, Fort Prinzenstein among others. I tried to visit all these beautiful tourists sites and by far, Keta beach was my favorite spot .

I hope you enjoy watching ❤️

woke up early, the soft light of dawn just beginning to filter through the curtains. There was something magical about the air that morning—calm, inviting, and full of promise. I slipped on my shoes and stepped outside to take a walk, eager to soak in everything around me.

The cool morning breeze swept gently across my face, carrying the earthy scent of the land and the subtle fragrance of tropical flowers. As I strolled through the quiet streets, the distant sounds of birds chirping created a peaceful symphony, as if nature itself was waking up with me.

Everywhere I looked, there was beauty—palm trees swaying lazily in the breeze, red dirt paths weaving through green fields, and bright, colorful murals painted on walls that told stories of history and pride. People were just beginning their day, some sweeping doorways or setting up shop, exchanging greetings with neighbors. Their smiles were as warm as the rising sun.

I paused for a moment, closed my eyes, and took a deep breath. It wasn’t just air I was breathing—it was Ghana. It was history, culture, and spirit all wrapped into one, filling my lungs and heart with gratitude. In that quiet walk, I realized I wasn’t just a visitor—I was part of something far greater, connected to the land and people in a way I couldn't fully explain.

That morning, Ghana spoke to me—not with words, but with the gentle breeze, the rhythms of daily life, and the feeling of belonging. It was a walk I’ll never forget, a moment that will stay with me long after I leave this beautiful land.

Margaret Allison, also known as "Babe," was born on September 25, 1921, in Plum Branch, South Carolina. In August 2006, she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the En Sound Music Awards for her contribution to gospel music. A few days later she surprised me with a phone call to express her gratitude for the honor. She passed away on July 30, 2008, in Philadelphia. Over her lifetime, she was notable for her involvement in a band for 64 years before her death. Her memory will forever stay with me, as she was a force to be reconned with.
