10 Tips For Getting Better Performance Out of #EcammLive On An Old Mac

1. Close any apps you will not be using in your production.

2. Close any menu bar apps, background processes and network communications that are not essential to the production.

3. Reduce screen resolution if possible.

4. Open any apps that you will be using during you productions to avoid the inevitable processor hit that comes with launching applications

5. Open any webpages that you may be demonstrating during your productions to avoid the processor and bandwidth hit.

6. If you are going to be doing demonstrations that involve downloading files, such as in installation and walkthrough guides, consider 'pre;downloading the files.

7. In Ecamm Live Preferences under the general tab, check the 'hardware graphics acceleration' option. The fans on your computer may be more prone to kicking in, but Ecamm Live performance will be improved.

8. Be conscious of the level of moving graphics that you incorporate into your Ecamm Live productions and overlays. Video running in the background, for example, will have an effect on performance.

9. Run through all of your scenes in Ecamm Live before going live/recording. In my experience, it helps to 'pre-load'/'buffer' animated overlays to avoid the first couple of frames being skipped.

10. Where possible, try and offload processes to external devices. For example, if running a keynote presentation into Ecamm Live, this could be done from a second Mac, an iPad, or even and iPhone.
